BE Design highways and civil engineering team worked closely on the Rushden Lakes Link Road design that provides a strategic link between Ditchford Road and the bustling Rushden Lakes Retail and Leisure destination. 

The single carriageway, measuring over 700m long, is designed not only to serve as a second access point into Rushden Lakes, but also to realise the client’s aspiration to unlock the 24-hectare land west of Rushden Lakes for future mixed-use development. 

Embracing site challenges such as the steep sloping topography and a high-pressure gas main, BE Design collaborated meticulously with architects and landscape architects to optimise the road layout and associated features to complement the client’s vision and navigate the site constraints. 

The highways team was responsible for the development of road alignment design options completed in both 2D and 3D software. The civils team contributed to the drainage design for the scheme including road-side swales and multifunctional attenuation ponds plus 3D modelling of site plateaus, to assist with feasibility assessment.
