Project Details
At BE Design, we are proud to be actively contributing to the Chatterley Valley development, a landmark project led by Harworth Group that is set to deliver up to 1.2 million square feet of high-quality industrial and logistics space in Staffordshire. Our comprehensive support encompasses concept design and masterplanning alongside a suite of technical civil engineering services—ranging from detailed cut and fill earthworks analysis, complex drainage system design, to highways infrastructure planning and delivery.
This strategically located 106-acre site benefits from excellent connectivity adjacent to the A500 and close proximity to Junction 16 of the M6 motorway, forming part of the wider Ceramic Valley Enterprise Zone—a catalyst for economic growth and manufacturing excellence in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
A key part of our remit includes undertaking whole life carbon assessments aligned with the rigorous UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (NZCBS), encompassing embodied carbon evaluations to ensure material specification and construction methodologies reduce environmental impact throughout the building lifecycle. This lifecycle approach complements our operational energy analysis using CIBSE Technical Guide TM54 (2022), which provides detailed methodologies to accurately assess and optimise predicted energy use during the design stage—facilitating high-performance, energy-efficient buildings that meet evolving sustainability regulations.
BE Design is also responsible for delivering earthworks designs that account for the site’s topographical challenges, including a 50-meter elevation difference and complex ground conditions influenced by historic mining activities. Our cut and fill strategy achieves an optimal balance to minimise off-site haulage and environmental disturbance while ensuring stable development platforms adjacent to critical infrastructure such as the West Coast Mainline railway.
In addition, our team has designed and gained technical approval for key site highways, including the creation of new roundabout access points and internal spine roads—critical for enabling safe and efficient vehicular movement within and around the development.
This collaboration underscores our commitment to sustainable place-making and infrastructure excellence, supporting Harworth Group’s vision to create resilient, future-proofed industrial spaces that generate significant regional economic and employment benefits. Once fully operational, Chatterley Valley is anticipated to support up to 1,700 jobs and contribute an estimated £67 million annually to the local economy, reinforcing Staffordshire’s status as a leading logistics and manufacturing hub.
We look forward to continuing to work alongside Harworth and local stakeholders to deliver this flagship development, which not only meets market demand but does so with a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship and long-term community value.
