Project Details
The BE team is collaboratively engaged in Civil/Structural engineering and BREEAM for McLaren Construction and Equation Properties, working on Plot 4 of the transformative Matrix 49 industrial project in Avonmouth, Bristol.
Work on Plot 4 began in February 2025, with an anticipated timeline of 66 weeks aiming for completion by April 2026.
Early works included the construction of a raised platform using site-won materials and imported fill to elevate the site for flood protection and ground enhancements, as well as piling due to the difficult ground conditions characterized by soft and compressible tidal flat deposits. Rigid Inclusions were employed to strengthen the ground beneath the external yards and primary access routes. The BE Designs Geotechnical team collaborated with McLaren to perform specific settlement calculations and on-site monitoring, considering the earthworks program to exclude the Rigid Inclusions within the car park area, thereby saving approximately £¾M for the client.
As part of the site enabling works, a new adoptable pumping station was installed, and the program will see the design and construction of a 596,000 sq. ft speculative warehouse unit, along with office space, transport hubs, a link bridge, and a gatehouse.
In line with McLaren Construction’s dedication to sustainability, the project aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and will comply with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and Smart Waste BRE standards.
