It’s National Apprentice week!
At BE Design, apprenticeships are about more than gaining qualifications, they’re about creating opportunities for the next generation and investing in the communities where we work. Apprenticeships build a future-ready talent pipeline and shape teams that truly reflect company values and culture.
For individuals, apprenticeships provide the chance to earn while learning, gaining hands-on experience from day one. They help future talent develop confidence, skills, and a clear path toward long-term careers.
For our local communities, they open doors for people from all backgrounds and strengthen vital links between employers, educators, and community partners.
We’re proud to play our part in supporting apprenticeships that help people, businesses and communities thrive together.
Our apprentices are a vital part of the BE Design family. Hear from some of them as they talk about their learning journeys, the support they’ve received, and what it means to grow with a company that invests in their future…
“Since joining BE Design, I have developed from a beginner into a confident member of the structural team, gaining invaluable experience on live projects and steadily building my technical and professional skills. The apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to combine study with hands-on learning, allowing me to apply theory directly to real-world situations while strengthening my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. BE Design’s supportive culture, strong mentoring, and commitment to career progression have made me feel valued and encouraged to take on greater responsibility. This experience has provided an excellent foundation for my future in the built environment, and I am proud to be part of a company that truly invests in its people.” – Nikolas Adamopoulos, Civil Engineer Apprentice.
“Since starting my apprenticeship with BE Design in September, I have developed a strong foundation in both technical skills and professional experience. Working on live projects from an early stage has allowed me to understand how ideas evolve into detailed designs and given me the confidence to contribute meaningfully within a team. Alongside my HNC studies, I can directly apply theoretical knowledge to real situations, which has accelerated my learning and strengthened my understanding of the design process. BE Design’s reputation for nurturing apprentices has been clear from the start—I’m given dedicated time for college work, real responsibility, and ongoing support from experienced colleagues who continuously guide and challenge me to grow. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time working on my car, a hobby that complements my apprenticeship by encouraging logical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper appreciation for how different systems work together.” – Toby Hillman, Apprentice Engineering Technician.
“Since joining BE Design in May, I have gained valuable experience across a wide range of activities that have supported both my professional and personal development. Early in my apprenticeship, I attended UKREiiF, where I helped set up our stand and had the opportunity to learn more about the wider built environment sector. I’ve also enjoyed contributing to the company’s social side, helping to organise events such as go-karting and taking an active role on the social committee, which has helped me build great connections across the business. From a technical perspective, I’ve been developing my skills in Revit and 3D rebar detailing, as well as learning about structural elements such as portal frames and foundations. Sharing my project work with colleagues has further strengthened my understanding and communication skills, while becoming a qualified Mental Health First Aider has allowed me to support others and promote wellbeing in the workplace. One of my proudest personal milestones has been purchasing my first car—something made possible through the stability and opportunities my apprenticeship has provided. Having previously completed work experience with BE Design, I already knew it was the right place for me. The mentoring, encouragement, and strong sense of teamwork here have given me the confidence to grow and a clear view of how I can continue to progress within the business.” – Toby Baldwin, Apprentice Engineering Technician.
