We are celebrating a milestone moment for Elliott Sheppard, and we’ve got plenty to shout about. 
Five years ago, Elliott joined the BE family as an Apprentice Engineer, taking on a degree apprenticeship that combined full-time work with part-time study. Since then, he’s grown into an engineer working across a wide range of civil and structural projects, becoming a valued part of our team.
This year, that hard work paid off in a big way. Elliott graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First-Class BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, completed alongside full-time work, which makes it all the more impressive. He also scored a huge 98% on his dissertation, which explored:
“Evaluating the Influence of Steel Manufacturing Supply and Transport on Embodied Carbon in Portal Frame Structures.”
And now, we’re delighted to announce that Elliott has been promoted to Graduate Engineer! In his new role, he’ll take on greater responsibility within our engineering team, contributing to technical decision-making while continuing to develop his design and problem-solving skills across an even broader range of projects. 
One of the highlights of Elliott’s career so far has been working on the Sawley Interchange project, where he gained valuable hands-on experience contributing to a complex multidisciplinary scheme.
In Elliott’s own words:
“Over the last five years, BE Design has given me the opportunity to grow from an apprentice into an engineer working on a wide range of civil and structural projects. Studying alongside full-time work has been challenging, but being able to apply university learning directly to real projects has made the experience especially valuable.
I’d say I’m probably known for asking plenty of questions, wanting to understand the reasoning behind design decisions, and getting stuck into a mix of civil, structural and sustainability work. I’m really grateful for the support I’ve had from the team throughout my apprenticeship and degree, and I’m looking forward to continuing that development as I move into my MSc in Structural Engineering.”
To celebrate this incredible double milestone, Elliott is jetting off to Milan!
