BE Design is pleased to announce Birgit Schneider’s promotion as Principle Sustainability Consultant, with over 17 years of diverse construction industry experience across Germany and the UK Birgit’s career spans a broad spectrum of roles with a major contractor, including site management, cost and project management, business development, and sustainability management, equipping her with a holistic understanding of construction processes, commercial drivers, and environmental imperatives.
Birgit’s expertise significantly enhances our consultancy’s European capability, particularly in the realm of BREEAM DE New Construction, BREEAM DE In-Use, WELL and ESG Due Diligence. Together with our European clients Birgit is leading the BREEAM DE In-Use assessments, an adaptation of the internationally recognised BREEAM In-Use standard tailored for the German market. This certification system is designed to evaluate and improve the sustainability performance of existing non-domestic buildings through a comprehensive assessment framework spanning two modules: Asset quality and Asset management.
Currently Birgit is leading the BE Design team in Germany, delivering multiple BREEAM DE In-Use projects, BREEAM New Construction and ESG Due Diligence in Germany, where she provides both specialist consulting and independently accredited assessor services. Her responsibilities include conducting Sustainability Pre-Assessment Reports aimed at property investors, facilitating informed decision-making by evaluating environmental performance, regulatory compliance, and identifying retrofit opportunities.
Birgit’s comprehensive understanding of sustainability in both construction lifecycle and in-use operational phases is instrumental in guiding clients through the complex landscape of environmental certification, carbon reduction strategies, and evolving EU regulations. Her multifaceted experience also supports the integration of energy modelling, green building certifications, and ESG frameworks within project delivery, enabling robust, data-driven approaches to sustainable built environment consultancy. As a qualified WELL AP, Birgit is following her passion supporting project teams in the UK and in Europe to not only achieve Outstanding Green building certifications but to also look after the Health & Wellbeing of the future Building Users by integrating project specific strategies in the main WELL categories air, water, light, thermal, comfort, sound, nourishment, mind, movement, community and aligning them where possible with other green building certification requirements.
Birgit’s passion and expertise are already enriching our workforce, and we are truly thrilled to have her driving forward our shared mission for a more sustainable and human-centred built environment.
Congratulations Birgit!
