CELEBRATING NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK: ELISABETH MALTHOUSE

Elisabeth Malthouse originally came to BE Design on a work experience placement, before joining as an apprentice, junior BIM technician in September 2015. As part of her training, she was enrolled on a two year, part-time construction and civil engineering HNC course at Lincoln College.

From here, Elisabeth gained qualifications equivalent to A-Levels whilst working, allowing her to apply for an architectural technology degree at Sheffield Hallam University, where she is currently in her second year.

Elisabeth said: “I’ve always learned best through physically doing things, so I felt that an apprenticeship was the best route as I would benefit more from on the job experience.

“Undertaking my apprenticeship at BE Design has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. I’ve been able to find and excel in something I’m really interested in, and I will graduate as an architectural technologist in 2023.

“I’ve also been able to work on so many brilliant projects, from student accommodation and rugby stadiums to restoring historic local markets and creating new skydiving centres – things I never dreamed my apprenticeship would allow me to work on.

“If you’re considering applying for an apprenticeship, my advice would be to do it! Undertaking one not only allows you to gain qualifications, but allows you to gain invaluable hands-on experience – a key element employers look for. It allows you to develop the skills and knowledge most relevant to your chosen career and, if started at a young age, could allow you to excel and progress through your career quicker than those who choose a more traditional route.”

We are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week this year by shining a light on those members of the BE Design family who joined us on as apprentices, or who have embarked on more formal education through the support of the wider team.
